The Samaritan Women began in 2007 as the first long-term restorative care program in the Mid-Atlantic serving female survivors of sexual exploitation. Over the years we have served 100+ survivors, developed a Spirit-led and evidence-based Care Model, and mentored other agencies. In 2018 we shifted our mission and rebranded as the Institute for Shelter Care. In this national leadership role, we seek to improve access and quality of care for trafficking survivors.  Our programs are focused on building up the next generation of Christian shelter providers and advancing excellence across this field, to the benefit of survivors and the glory of God.

With this growth and national expansion, we are seeking recommendations for our Board of Directors. Specifically, we are looking for individuals with a desire to see God’s people sacrificially engaged in the care of the exploited.  We seek individuals who:
  • Are mature, committed Christians
  • Have prior Board experience, preferably with a national organization
  • Possess skills in strategic planning and execution
  • Have a proven ability to support development and raise funds for the organization
  • Have professional accomplishments in the fields of business, academia, mental health/health care, criminal justice, religion, or government
The Institute is headquartered in Louisville, Kentucky, but as a national organization with staff in five states, we are able to support a geographically dispersed Board. The TSW-Institute for Shelter Care Board Commitment includes:
  • 5 virtual meetings per year and 1 in-person annual meeting (November)
  • “give or get” financial commitment
  • Active participation on at least one Board Committee  (Finance, Development, or Advisory)
  • Regular commitment to pray for leadership, staff and work of the organization
